Willie Wesley Powe

April 12, 1932 — April 15, 2020

Willie Wesley Powe was born on April 12, 1932 to the parentage of Odell and Annie Powe.

Willie attended public school up until the 9th grade. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was in the trucking industry for over 35 years. He drove for Mobley and Laidlaw Waste System. In his spare time he enjoyed fixing lawnmowers, playing his guitar, gardening, and singing with the Wandering Travelers of East Texas. Willie united with New Hope Church of Christ under James Tinsley Sr. during the summer revival. He remained a faithful member until his health failed. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Edna J. Brown on October 12, 1953 and to this union six children were born.

He departed this life after a long battle with cancer on April 15, 2020.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Florida Reynolds, Peggy Wallace, Richard Powe, Roosevelt Powe, Walter Powe Sr. mother-in-law Alberta Brown, and sister-in-law Alma Adams.

Willie leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 66 years Edna Powe; six children Laverne (Willie) Wilprit, Loraine Freeman, Willie (Bobbie) Powe, Theresa Powe, Mollie Sheffield, and Alan (Jennifer) Powe; grandchildren he raised: Melissa Clayton, Monica (Tommy) Arbuckle, Toyo Powe, and L'Toya (Calvin) Lacy; sixteen grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
