Willie Mae Williams was born on July 19, 1933 in the Steber Grove Community of Kilgore, Texas to the late Roosevelt and Luvena Smith. She departed this life on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 3:15 p.m.
She attended school in the New Hope and Steber Grove Community and was a well-loved employee of Kilgore Independent School District. After the passing of her late husband, Erastus “Rock” Williams, she remained in Kilgore for over 25 years. She also retired from KISD after 26 years of employment.
At an early age, she attended New Hope Baptist Church of Kilgore, Texas. She later joined Saints Chapel Church of God in Christ of Kilgore, Texas where she renewed her faith.
Willie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters: Mary Mapps and Ora Pollard, and her daughter: Brenda Faye Yilla.
She leaves her loving family to forever cherish her memories: her sisters, Margine Smith of San Francisco and Lula Mae Decker of Longview; her daughters, Evelyn (Ansu) Kamara of San Antonio, and Leah (Ronnie) Lee of Kilgore; her grandchildren, Tonny Jackson, Frank Jackson, Abu Kamara, Tradis Kamara, Ansu “Rocky” Kamara, LaQuna Williams, Fernesha Robinson, and Ronda Lee. She also leaves behind a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and other relatives.
