On the eve of The Great Depression, Willie Ruth Brown was welcomed into this world on May 11, 1926 by his parents Ruth Scott and Roosevelt Brown Sr.
Willie was a true outdoorsman, loving to camp, hunt, and especially fish. Fishing was his favorite pastime. Some could say that he not only fished for the catch, but for the serenity and peace he gained from the water and the solitude of the activity. Willie loved to ride his bike to his favorite fishing hole, pulling his wagon with all his fishing gear right behind. He also enjoyed planting flowers and vegetable gardening; he truly had a green thumb. Willie enjoyed living in the East Texas Area, especially Rusk-Gregg Counties. He was also very proud to count himself a son of Texas.
Willie Brown worked for AP Merritt Sr. Family. The Merritt siblings: Mertia, AP, Tommy, and Mike believed he had unseen angel wings. The Merritt siblings tell beloved stories of his laughter and adventures with them, teaching them how to ride their bikes and fish with a cane pole. As the years came and went, Willie continued a relationship with the family and accompanied them on many hunting trips.
Willie left this world to be with his Heavenly family on August 20, 2020. He joined his parents, his beloved wife Rosetta Brown, daughter Dorothy Lacy and three brothers. Left to cherish his memory are: brother Ronnie Brown of Kilgore, TX; daughters Ruthie Mayfield of Longview, TX, Pari Williams and Bertha Jackson both of Kilgore, TX; son Larry Brown of Longview, TX; sixteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and one God Child, Robert Preston of Kilgore, TX. Willie Ruth Brown will be remembered for his sweet spirit, his love of the simple life, and God’s creation.
