Steven Bernard Ashley Sr.

Steven (Steve) Bernard Ashley, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on April 8, 2024 in Longview, Texas after a fighting a short battle with a terminal illness.  Born to Claude Sr. and Elsie Sibley Ashley on October 3, 1962 in Kilgore, Texas, Steve was a true Kilgore native through and through, his life and legacy deeply woven in the community.

Steve accepted Christ as his savior with Wayside Church of God in Christ, where he was an active member with a profound love for God.

Steve matriculated through Kilgore Public Schools where he participated in high school sports, excelling in track, graduating with the Kilgore High School Class of 1982. After graduating high school, he worked several years at Skeeter Boats before beginning a long career as a painter with General Dynamics, formally known as Vertex, where he retired.  After retirement, he continued his love for painting by working at Lorimer, where he worked until his death.

Steve had an infectious personality and enjoyed being around people, especially his children and grandchildren.  He always had a love for fashion, even in high school, and was an impeccable dresser.   Steve was also a very enthusiastic Dallas Cowboys fan.

Preceded in death by his parents, sister Carolyn Cheney, brother Claude Ashley, Jr. and niece Aeriel Popkie. Steve leaves to cherish his memory his children Steven Bernard Ashley, Jr. (Travanda) of Rex, Georgia and  Krystal Nicole Ashley of Jonesboro, Georgia; six grandchildren Sage Orange-Ashley, Darius Ashley, Dallas Ashley, Breonni Ashley, Trinity Dungy, and Kaitlyn Mickel; three sisters Mildred Ashley and Eloise Ashley of Kilgore, Texas and Veronica Krall (Michael) of Austin, Texas; two brothers Monie Ashley and Marvin Ashley of Kilgore, Texas; bonus children Eriel Harris, Courtney Harris, Cory Collins-Thurman, Erica Thurman and Johnathan Franklin; bonus grandchildren Aubree Timms, Khloe Stanford, YaliyahFranklin, Zymire Franklin and Jai Franklin and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
