Sara Strong Bass

September 6, 1933 — December 19, 2014

Sara Mae Strong Bass was born September 7, 1933, to the parentage of Mr. and Mrs. Collie B. and Mary Lee Lewis Strong in Gregg County, Texas. Both parents preceded her in death. She was the second daughter of eleven children. Three boys and one girl preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two of her children; Anita and Rev. Cedric Strong

She graduated from North Chapel High School in Kilgore, Texas and continued her education at Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas where she graduated with a B.A. degree in Education and received her Masters of Education Degree. After College graduation, she entered into her teaching career with the Houston ISD schools; Beginning at Booker T. Washington High School and ending her career at Sam Houston High School, where she retired after 35 years as an educator. Sara taught Biology, P E, & Health courses, and was a basketball coach, winning various team awards. Having a love for her work and the lives of the children she educated she kept close contact with many of them, continuing to pour her love into their lives.

Sara Strong Bass received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. She became a member of New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and was active in Sunday School, Choir and various youth and young adult activities. After moving to Houston, Texas she united with the Mt.Moriah Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Hoxie Perry. She became an active and faithful servant in several ministries, auxiliaries, Sunday School and Choir. She fulfilled her passion for teaching and praying as she served to glorify God in church and the community. Those areas included: teaching in Sunday School, Mission, the familys Cousin Forum and the C & M Strong Christian Ministries and Outreach, a ministry in which she was one of the co-founders in 1982 and the Board of Directors Financial leader & resource person.

Sara was not only an educator but a Christian mother who poured Gods Word into the lives of her children and her surrogate children, a very faithful Prayer Warrior & Intercessor, a humanitarian , a lover of horticulture, a generous giver to the work of many Christian Ministries and Organizations. Wherever and however she could touch the lives of others with the message of Christs love she left her footprints. She loved Jesus and she knew Jesus loved her. After the death of her older sister and parents the role of family matriarch fell unrequested, but not unfulfilled, on her shoulders. She dedicated herself to teaching and leading her family with great wisdom and love. She remained faithful to her assigned season of active service until her health began to fail her in 2005. Her inspiring attitude of this blessed woman of God has made an indelible mark in the lives of her family and those she walked among.
