Rubye Jean Fort

Rubye Jean Hilburn Fort was born on October 10, 1921 in Rusk County, TX to Eugene and Caroline Hilburn.

Rubye obtained her bachelor’s degree from Butler College and spent 36 years as a third and fourth grade teacher in the Kilgore Public Schools. Mrs. Fort was beloved by her students in part because of her kind, loving spirit. She retired in 1986.  Upon retirement she spent her spare time taking care of family, watching soap operas and judge shows.

She met and married Harold Fort Sr.

She was a faithful member of Harmony Pirtle Baptist Church until her health failed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Leon and Jack, son Darrell E. Fort Sr., an infant daughter, and grandson Harold (Boop) Fort III.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons Harold Jr. (Aileen) Fort of Houston, TX and Rickey (Glenda) Fort of Kilgore, TX; six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great grandchildren. Also mourning her loss, special cousin Lois Hilburn of Dallas, TX., ex-daughter-in-law Ethel Fort, niece Theresa Ross of Los Angeles, CA., and nephew Keith Hilburn of Los Angeles, CA.
