Rosie Mae Ward, age 93 went to glory peacefully Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 6:25 am in her home in Desoto. TX. She was born on January 1, 1925 in Kilgore TX to Walter and Clara (Williams) Sheffield.
She was the youngest of 12 siblings with 8 brothers; Jambo, Blue, Malcolm, Green, Tom, Homer, Roosevelt (Botty) and Charlie Boy Sheffield; and three sisters Matilda, Pauline and Victoria Sheffield.
Rosie graduated from North Chapel High School and continued her education at Prairie View A&M University where she obtained her Master’s degree in Education.
Later, she married her longtime sweetheart Clyde O. Ward and had their only son Jimmy C. Ward.
Rosie taught at serval schools in the Dallas Independent School District; namely Oliver Wendell Holmes and Alex W. Spence Middle School where she was highly respected amongst the staff and students. She received many accolades for her passion and dedication to teaching.
After 20+ years in the teaching profession, Rosie retired and then spent the remainder of her years devoted to serving her Lord and Savior, which she received at an early age. This time in her life made her widely known in the community and within the church.
Granny, as she is affectionately known as, leaves behind to cherish her legacy a sister Victoria Sheffield, two grandsons Anthony & Derrick Ward; granddaughter-in-laws Melissa & Chante; two great-granddaughters Chalissia & Cherika Ward and three great-grandsons De’Marque Ward, Sekai Ward & Jarale Holland plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
