Robert Earl Clayborn was born September 6, 1947 in Kilgore Texas. Robert the third son to the Rev. Cain and Bobbie Cleveland Clayborn. At an early age he united in Christ at New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He was a proud 1967 graduate of North Chapel High School where he excelled in band as a drummer.
Robert Earl better known to friends as Bob, Clay or Weasel, proudly answered to all of these names and He never met a stranger.
After high school he served his country from 1967-1969 in the jungles of Vietnam serving the U S Army. After Vietnam he enlisted in the National Guard where he served for 19 years. Meanwhile in Longview, Washington he met Bettie McGee who he united in matrimony and to this union one child was born. In the mid 1970s, Robert moved to Ft. Worth and worked as a truck driver and finally as a custodian for Ft. Worth ISD until his health failed. In the spring of 2012 he returned to Kilgore to the North Chapel Community. He was active in the community. He could be seen daily driving his “side by side” around visiting family and friends. He loved spending time with family and friends until the Lord called him home September 13, 2020.
Robert was preceded in death by his infant brother Melvin, His Parents,his Bettie (Wife), and sister Jimmie Mae Davis. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Arthur L. Clayborn ll and wife Patricia, brother Arthur Clayborn, and God sister Loudester Howell of Longview. All of his children who he helped raise and mentored - Rodney Vaughn, Overton, Bridget Vaughn Shepard, Longview, Andrea Lyons Williams Ft. Worth, Nieces Marilyn (Jimi) Davis Ft. Worth, Denise Davis Longview, Wanda Davis The Woodlands, Nephew Kelley (Lue) Davis Lansing, Mi. His special North Chapel Community friends Benny Gordon, Mary Clayborn, Obie Clayborn Jr., Bobby Ray Clayborn, Sangria Pittman, Barbara Ector, Rochelle Ceballos, and Nancy Johnson. His special cousins he always talked to on the phone, Florene Davis (Alfred), Brenda Clayborn, Archie Clayborn, Cindy Brown, Renee Benson Scott, and a host of cousins. Brother-in-law Ricky Mcgee, Clarence McGee (Collins, MS) and sister-in-laws Elnora Batey (Reggie), Arnelle, Mattie McGee (Collins, MS), and mother-in-law Katherine McGee.
