Monnie Lewis Portley

Monnie Jr. was born in Gregg Country, Texas on October 24, 1948 to the parentage of Monnie L. and Irene Portley Sr. He took to rest on Friday morning, April 20, 2012 at home.
In his youth he joined New Hope Baptist Church and later joined Harmony Pirtle Baptist Church. While there he was ordained as a Deacon. He also served as President of the Male Chorus and President of the Gospel Choir for several years, the Vice-Chairman of the Deacon board, Director of Male Chorus, Sunday school, School Treasurer, and member of the Men of Harmony and most of all he was a spiritual guidance and stand in father to several young adults.
He was a graduate from C.B. Dansby High School in Kilgore and remained in the area all of his life.
He worked for Gillan Gas Station during his youth and later moved on to Harton Gas Station. After he started his family he worked for the City of Kilgore for a number of years. He moved on to working for the telephone company Century Link for 35 years and that was his present employer.
In 1967 he married Jeanette Harvey and two children were born to this union, Rodney and Reginald.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Jeanette, his two sons, Rodney Portley of Overton, Reginald and (Dietra) Portley of Overton, and one daughter Tausha Waller of Fort Worth, his parents Monnie & Irene Portley, Sr. his siblings Oma Jackson of Kilgore, Richard and (Peggy) Portley of Overton, Rena Grace Murphy of Longview, Bruce and (Dale) Portley of Henderson, and his grandchildren Gabrielle Portley, Alex Portley, Camron Portley, Rodnia Portley, Brandon Pleasant, Fredarico Hilburn, Francisco Hilburn, and Kimberly Hilburn and great-grandson Dakalyn Portley, and a host of relative, and friends.
