April 26, 1941 – April 15, 2026
Mary Leora Calico Jones of Longview, Texas was born to the parents of A. W. and Armie Dean Calico in Smith County. She departed this earthly life to join the Lord on April 15, 2026 at her home.
Mary began her education at Jackson School for two years and then to Post Oak School for her elementary years. She went to West Point for her Jr High years. She then graduated from North Chapel. She was named Ms. North Chapel her senior year. She excelled to being one point short of the salutatorian of her class. Mary attended Texas College and transferred to Bishop College in Dallas, TX. Mary joined the AKA Sorority at Bishop College. She was a lifetime member. She graduated from Bishop in 1964. Mary taught elementary education for 34 years in Dallas, California and Longview. She received her Masters Degree in Counseling in 1973.
Mary met the Love of her life L A Jones at Texas College. They united in marriage in 1963. He was in the military, so they traveled to many different states and countries. In 1969 their son Eugene Allen Jones was born.
Mary loved church she worked in many areas of the church, Usher board, Sunday school, Pastors aide and anywhere she was need.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents A.W. & Armie Dean Calico, husband L A Jones, brother James Calico, bonus sister Mary Lee Ates, son Eugene Allen Jones, sister-in-law Alma Calico, five nephews Jared Thibodeaux, Rayland Fuller, Tory Fuller, Robert Gabriel, and James Christopher Calico.
She leaves behind a legacy of love - son Treyvone James DeMonte Walters of Houston, TX, three brothers William Calico, Sr. of Kilgore, TX, Robert Calico of Kilgore, TX and Allen Calico of Longview, TX. Four sisters Alice Thibodeaux (Jerald) Garland, TX, Sherrion Fuller (Raymond) Longview, TX, Rosemary Calico-Hopson (Hermann) Baytown, TX, and LaJoyce Davis (Keri) Longview, TX. One bonus sister Paula Cruickshank of Baytown, TX, one aunt Eddie Page (James), and one sister-in-law Sandy Calico of Longview TX. A very special Care Giver Areatha Carldwell of Longview, TX and her loving housekeeper of twenty-two years Christina Rico of Longview, TX. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
