Mary Ann Butts-Haywood

Mary Ann Butts Haywood, died April 26, 2010 at the age of 102. She was a wonderful, amazing and energetic person. Mary Ann was born in Kilgore, Texas on July 1, 1907 to pioneers, Levi and Savannah Butts. She was one of seven children. Her parents, sisters, brothers, and husbands preceded her in death. She was a school teacher in the Kilgore School system, where she taught many elementary students. Mary Ann was also active at Harmony Pirtle Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a missionary worker, and served on fund raising committees. Gardening and cooking were also among her many joys. She also lived in Southern California for a period of time and volunteered as a teacher's assistant. She will always be remembered and cherished. She is survived by nephew, Lincoln L. Butts, nieces, Alpha Snell, Helen Franklin, Faye Armstrong, Cozetta LaMore, and Mary Ann Butts, a host of grand and great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends and acquaintances. Viewing will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Woods-Valentine Mortuary in Pasadena, California. Her final resting place will be held in Kilgore, Texas. Viewing will be held Friday, May 8, 2010 at 6:00 P.M. at Cunningham Funeral Home. Final services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at Harmony Pirtle Baptist Church in Kilgore, Texas. Internment at the Butts-Kennedy Cemetery. Rev. Carlos Whitaker will be officiating.
