Lonell “L.D.” Dorsey was the 7th child born to the late James and Christiania Dorsey on March 23, 1948. At an early age L.D joined the Whitehouse Church of God in Christ where he was baptized. He later joined Greater Shiloh Baptist Church of Tyler TX. In 2018 joined Faith Baptist Church of Tyler, TX. until the time of his death. L.D. graduated from Stanton High School where he found his passion for sports. His class of 1966 was the final graduating class of Stanton High School. Who could ever forget “The Fab 5” L.D, Johnny Mack Alexander, Johnny Fred Mayes, Henry Joe Pettigrew, and Lessie Hugh Turner. L.D. alongside his best friend/cousin Henry Joe Pettigrew, played and coached "The Red Dogs Baseball Team"and under his leadership they won five championships. In early years, he married Linda Moore Dilworth and to this union was blessed with one daughter and a bonus son. In 1997, he married Virginia Dorsey and to this union was blessed with two daughters and three bonus sons. Lonell was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge. The U.S. Army recognized L.D. for his honorable service. During this time he earned a Purple Heart w/First Oak Leaf Cluster; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w 3/ Bronse Service Stars; Republie of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge & Expert (Rifle). L.D. worked for GE in Tyler, TX; Whitehouse & Athens School District. He retired early and own and operated his lawn care business until his health failed. Mr. Lonell Dorsey finished his fight on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at The Hospice of East Texas, Tyler, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Christiania Dorsey; sisters Mildred Willis and LaJoyce Ervin; brothers James Dorsey Jr. and Wilbert Dorsey. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Virginia Dorsey of Tyler, TX; three daughters Shannon Dorsey (Antone), Afton Dorsey-Oliver (Michael), Kathy Dorsey; four sons John Johnson (Lavera), Orlando Kiser, Anthony Boyd, Brodrick Hawkins; sister Jettie Smith, brothers Walter Dorsey(Lula), Tommy Dorsey, Billy Ray Dorsey; sister-in-law's Maxine Dorsey and Malinda Johnson; brother-in-law Robert Willis; fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three god-children Angelia Johnson, Reginald McMorris, and Shawn Wren; special niece Sharon Stewart-Kennedy; special cousins children of John and Mary Pettigrew; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
