Katherine Yvonne Fortson

Katherine was born September 8, 1928 to Robert Sibley and Sally Pierce Sibley and made her transition on January 15, 2017. She grew up in the New Hope area where she attended New Hope Schools. She met the love of her life and they were united in marriage in 1947 and moved to the Liberty City area. To this union five children were born. Ina Marie Fortson Elder who preceded her in death; Calvin Coolidge Fortson Jr. ( Rose); Carl Ray Fortson ( Shirley) ; Dr. Joyce Fortson Johnson and Fay L. Fortson Johnson ( Larry) and adopted Kathy Renee Elder ( granddaughter). She confessed Christ at an early age and joined New Hope Church of Christ and later united with the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where she held numerous positions through the years and was a very dedicated and faithful member until her recent illness. As a beautiful young lady, she was very fortunate to work for the late Mr. Jimmy Parks and Nadine Crim who became her family. She grew to love their children Janet Parks Underwood and Bobby Parks as her own. She later worked for Kilgore College at the dormitory where she was known as "Bubbles" because of her infectious smile and vibrant personality. She attended Kilgore College as a business student and later worked as a film librarian for Region VII Service Center where she retired after 25 years of dedicated service. Katherine siblings include: Vivian Boyce ( North Carolina); LaVera Byrd ( Dallas), Velma Sibley ( Dallas), and Tom Sibley ( Evelyn) Las Vegas, NV. Preceding her in death were sisters, Wilma Hall ( San Francisco); Robin Jeffery ( New York). Brothers include Van Earl Sibley; Napolean Sibley ( Juanita) and Allen Sibley ( Ida Marie) all of Fort Worth. Those who will remember Katherine most fondly are her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends, including special children Janet Parks Underwood ( Johnny) Dallas, Everlena W. Derrick (Kilgore) and special in laws, Bobby E. Fortson ( Lora), Maxine Fortson (CD) and Beadie Pentecost all of Kilgore. Repast will be immediately following the services at the Olivia Hilburn Center on West Point Rd.
