James Calvin Williams was born in Kilgore, Texas on August 28, 1946 to the parentage of Frank and Evelyn Wilkins Williams.
He attended Elder Elementary School and C. B. Dansby High School. He played multiple sports and was good at it. Especially in football, basketball, and track. Then to our surprise, he also played tennis. After graduating high school, he chose to go to the job corps in San Antonio, TX and learn the trade of welding. This landed him a job at Kilgore Ceramics which later on became Mansfield Plumbing where he retired after 40 years of dedicated service.
In 1979 he met and later married the love of his life Sherry Williams. To show you the
humor of God, her last name was already Williams, and she came from a different neck of the woods than where he was from. They became a blended family of three daughters and three sons.
Even until this day, some people do not know his given name. All they know is Slick
Williams. He lives on Highway 31, and he owns a bunch of Old School Trucks and Cars. Please do not go to his house and ask his wife, “do you want to sell one of those vehicles”. The answer was no when you asked him and it’s still no if you ask her. So, to give you a heads up, don’t even go there and ask.
James made sure that his house was in order before he went to sleep on this side and
woke up and stepped into the presence of God for eternity. He was surrounded by his wife, children, and part of his Church family, who was able to witness the beautiful transition of his very being. God gave him his utmost desire and that was to leave peacefully, and so he did.
James’ mother, father, sister, and brothers all preceded him in death. Slick lived a blessed life and left a great legacy to be passed on to his wife Sherry Williams of 45 years, sons, James Jr., Michael, and Carlos. Daughters, Stephanie, Twilikki, and Starlet. 10 Grandchildren, and 5 Great grands. Grandson James III was his Pancake eating partner every Saturday morning whenever they had the chance to spend time together. Godbrother, Reuben Elder (wife Marilyn) of Grand Rapid, MI. Godsons, Weldon Hunt, Dedric Jackson, Devin Pierce, Brandon Smith, Mtima Wafer, Michael Sanders, and Rayshawn Thompson. Two Godsons preceded him in death, Waylon Hunt, and Gregory Williams. His car crew buddies, David Gage and Jack Witt. Cherished friends, LeAnn Bolwerk, Holly Copeland, Renee Cunningham, Pamela and Larry Hoye, Alice and Willie Hunt, Jessica James, Leslye and Kenneth Ligon, Billie Smith, and Monica Williams.
He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, out-laws, church family, and the remaining classmates from the C.B. Dansby high school Class of 1965. You know who you are!
