Ina Marie Elder

September 14, 1947 — December 25, 2014

Ina Marie Elderwas born to Calvin Coolidge and Katherine Yvonne Fortson on September 15, 1947.
She was raised in Kilgore, TX. and received her education at North Chapel Schools and was one of the first black students to integrate Kilgore Junior College in fall 1965. She also attended Texas A&M University Commerce, formerly East Texas State University in Commerce, TX.
Ina confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. In later years, she was a devoted member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church where she served in many capacities; Member of Pastor Study, Assistant Secretary to Treasurer, Pastor's Aide, Chairperson of the Mount Moriah Missionary Society, Secretary and Sunday School Teacher. She remained a faithful member under Bishop Tomas E. Jones, Jr. until her death.
Through her union with Ruben Elder, Jr., she bore two children; Kathy Renee Elder and Dalvin Lamar Elder. She also enjoyed a union with Travis Timms. She entered eternal rest on Thursday, December 25, 2014 and was preceded in death by her son, Dalvin Elder and Travis Timms.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherishing her memories to her loving daughter Kathy Elder of Snellville, GA.; parents Calvin and Katherine; brothers, Carl Ray Fortson and Calvin Fortson Jr., ( Rose); all of Kilgore, sisters Dr. Joyce Fortson Johnson of Kilgore, Faye Johnson ( Larry) of Arlington, TX; Shirley Fortson of Kilgore, TX; Beverly Mumphrey of Hawkins, TX; Janet Underwood of Dallas, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, relatives and friends.
