Gilbert Wilson Dickey

January 2, 1935 — December 20, 2021

Mr. Gilbert Wilson Dickey, son of the late George Washington Dickey and Bertha Dansby Dickey, was born on January 2, 1935 in Marshall, Texas. He was the oldest of three children. At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Gilbert graduated from C.B Dansby (Kilgore Colored) High School. Gilbert actively served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959 and was honorably discharged. In 1964, he received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education from Prairie View A&M University and later his Master’s Degree from Prairie View A&M University. He later served as an educator in the Dallas Independent School District for over 30 years and retired as a Vocational Coordinator where he touched many lives. Gilbert was united in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Gloria Jean Ross. To this union two daughters were born. Gilbert was a loving and dedicated father to his two girls whom he adored. Mr. Gilbert Wilson Dickey departed this life on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 9:12 a.m. in Dallas, Texas. For those who knew him well, he was known as a strong man with strong convictions who deeply loved his daughters, his family, electrical work, working with his hands, and listening to jazz music. Family and friends remember Gilbert as a “Jack of All Trades.” Many will fondly remember Gilbert for sending Greenberg Turkeys during the holiday season. Gilbert’s grandchildren will cherish their grandfather and remember him wearing blue fishing hats, taking them to Luby’s, sharing hilarious stories, and making them laugh. Gilbert’s brother will treasure the life lessons and experiences they shared from childhood to adulthood. Gilbert was easy going, loved the country and his retirement home in Kilgore, Texas. Gilbert Dickey has touched the lives of many relatives, friends, and others with his huge personality, unique laugh, fishing hats, toothpicks, helpful hands, and witty remarks. Gilbert leaves to cherish his precious memory, his children Sarah Dickey-Hill (Rongea) and Gilberta Dickey-Peugh (Theloniaus Sr.); grandchildren Brynn Hill, Kayli Hill, Gabrielle Peugh, Ryan Hill and Theloniaus Peugh Jr. of Desoto, Texas; one brother, James Dickey of Gambrills, Maryland; and a host of other dear family and friends who will cherish his memory.
