Eugene Alton Mathis

Eugene Alton Mathis of Kilgore, Texas was born August 14, 1963 to the late Shirley Jo Mathis and Elvis Mathis of Longview, TX. He departed this life on December 22, 2017.

He married Shelia Mathis on July 29, 1984; they were married for 33 years. To this union three sons were born. He loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He visited family and friends often to show just how much he cared. If there was anything he could do to help you, he would. Most of all, he loved God and always took care of his family.

Eugene attended Longview High School and graduated with the class of 1982. He was an employee at Mansfield Plumbing for 18 years and Skeeter for 13 years. He was a deacon at Faith Tabernacle of God in Christ, where he served faithfully for 33 years. Taking care of the church was a priority for him.

Eugene was preceded in death by his father, Elvis Mathis Sr.; his mother, Shirley Jo Mathis; his brothers, Glover C Mathis, DeWayne Mathis, Carl Mathis, James Walker; and sister, Lessie B Mathis.

Eugene leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Shelia Mathis; three sons, Darron Mathis (Chrisan), Joshua Mathis (Janell), Jeremy Mathis (Caylynn); six grandchildren, two brothers; Elvis Mathis (Eva), Joe Stevenson; two sisters, Jennifer Mathis and Shrubbery Walker, aunts; Helen George, Dorothy Perry, Joycee Woolrigde and Doris Lilly; uncles, Hollis Lilly, Elzie Lilly, Donald Ray Lilly; mother-in-law; Beatrice Gilstrap and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
