Effie Jewel Brooks Mumphrey

Effie Jewel Brooks Mumphrey was born on January 22, 1947 to the parentage of James Howard and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Mayfield Brooks. She was blessed with an amazing stepfather Noble Brooks who had a hand in her raising.

She attended Dunbar and Jackson schools. As a child, she attended Corinth Baptist Church and later in life she joined Mt. Zion CME Church where she remained a faithful member until her health failed. She worked at Jackson Elementary for numerous years before retiring.

She spent 55 beautiful years of marriage to Margene Mumphrey Sr. and to this union 7 children were born. She loved sitting outside listening to music and she loved the presence of her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth “Lizzie” Brooks; father James Howard; step-father Noble Brooks; daughter LaQuita LeShell Mumphrey; sister Rosie Brooks; daughter-in-law Melody Mumphrey.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children Margene Mumphrey Jr., Doris Mumphrey Handy (Charles), Tina Mumphrey all of Winona, TX. Barbara Mumphrey, Terisa Mumphrey, and Lori Mumphrey all of Tyler, TX. Three special children Tiffany Roberts, Loraine Young, and Corey Phillips. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
