Edward Thomas Bowers Sr.

Edward Thomas Bowers, Sr. was born on July 30, 1933 to the late Mabel Moore Hoskins and the late Jessie Bowers in Dallas, TX. Edward attended the public-school system of Dallas and graduated from Lincoln High School. After graduation, Edward enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952, where he served his country with pride. During his active duty as a Korean Veteran, Edward earned several medals of honor being honorably discharged in 1955. Edward was employed by the City of Los Angeles, where he served as a supervisor and retired after 30 years of service and returned to Texas in 1989.

Upon Edward’s relocation to Longview, Texas, he united with Corinth Christian Church in Kilgore, Texas, where he served as Chairman of the Board and worked wherever he was needed. Edward was a faithful steward and a devoted servant until his health began to fail.

Edward was an exceptional golfer and was a proud member of the Trail Blazer Golf Club of Longview, Texas, where he and the members golfed faithfully every week for 30 years. He also golfed at the Longview Country Club and frequently attended out of town golf tournaments.

He went to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, August 20, 2020.

Edward was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Moore Hoskins; father, Jessie Bowers; Jr.; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Edward is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 40 years, Rutha Bowers; his son, Vincent Bowers of Los Angeles, CA.; his grandson, Vincent Edward Bowers of Inglewood, CA.; his sister, Mabel Ann John of Vallejo, CA.; a very special sister-in-law, Edna Mae Brown; and a host of special nieces, great nieces, and cousins. Edward was loved and cherished by all of his church family and friends.
