Dorothy Mae was the second of twelve-children born to parentage
of Thurman “Pete” and Myrel-Brown Holland of Holland’s Quarter
in
Carthage, Texas. As a child she attended school in Panola County. For more than a decade she has been the matriarch of the Thurman
and
Myrel Holland family.
When she was an adult Dorothy moved to Kilgore, Texas. There she
met and married Jimmy Lee Smith, to this union one child was born.
She later married William C. Hawkins, to this union no children
were
born.
Dorothy loved to travel to historical landmarks. On Friday nights
you
could find her seated on 30-yard line at Henderson Lions Stadium as, a Season ticket holder, cheering on the LIONS.
Sunday morning
she was off to Sunday School. After church she loved watching & rooting for the Washington Redskins (Washington
Football Team) and whomever was playing the Dallas Cowboys that day.
Dorothy came to know and love the LORD as a child while attending
Pine Grove Baptist Church. At the time of her death Dorothy was a
known was Mother Hawkins a faithful member of St. John Baptist
Church
of Kilgore, Texas in the Steber Grove Community.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Thurman and Myrel
Holland, three sisters, Lucille Crear, Erris Powell and Ruby Williams,
two brother Joe Dell Holland and Travis Ray Holland Sr.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Annie Myrel
Smith; one granddaughter Ma’Kayla Bre-Anne Campbell; one
grandson
Taurans Mukweyo Ngishu all of Henderson, Tx. One uncle, Travis
(Cynthia) Holland of Tyler, Tx; One aunt, Eva Walton of Banning, Ca.
Three sisters, Ida (Barron) Goods of Plano, Tx, Gloria Holland of
Beckville, Tx and Wanda (Harvel) Davis of Longview, Tx; Three
brothers John (Donna) Holland of Dallas, Tx, Cleophas (Janice) Holland of Carthage, Tx, and R.L. Holland of Beckville, TX and a host of nieces and nephews relatives and friends.
