Deborah Jean Silvia Garrett

Deborah Jean Silvia Garrett was born October 7, 1950, in Fall River, Mass., only child of James Pacheco Silvia and Georgina Mendonca Silvia. Deborah was christened at Mt. Cristo Catholic Church, Fall River, Mass. She attended elementary school at St. Francis in Fall River and graduated from Mt. St. Mary’s High School in Fall River. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1970 from Fischer College, Boston, Mass.

Deborah met Cain Garrett Jr. while he was attending Navy Destroyer School in Newport, Rhode Island. The couple united in October 1970 and were together for 56 years.

After graduation from college, Deborah worked briefly at Aetna Insurance Co. in Fall River and as an Accountant Assistant in Monterrey, CA. In the 70s and 80s, she worked in Mountain View, CA, City Hall as a Personnel Director. She served as a Chess Club Administrator and Tournament Director from 1984 until 2007.

Deborah moved back to New England when her mother passed in 2014 where she and Cain resided until their deaths.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Cain Garrett, Jr., and parents James Silvia and Georgina Silvia.

Deborah leaves to cherish her memories: Sisters-in-Law, India Timms of Kilgore, TX, Loretta Simon of Forney, TX; and Susan Garrett of Lufkin, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
