A great patriarch of the Samples family was lost with the passing of Bobby Scotty Samples, age 80, received his wings and transitioned to his heavenly home on February 28, 2023. He was born in Gregg County on August 15,1942, to the late John T and Flossie Mae Samples, who raised him in a Christian home along with his brother and sisters.
Bobby graduated from North Chapel High School (1960) and furthered his education at Texas College for 4 years, majoring in Business.
Bobby has been a lifelong active and dedicated member of Mt. Pleasant CME church of Kilgore, TX holding many offices and loved contributing to the music ministry by playing his guitar during service and with many quartets.
On August 29, 1964, Bobby married the love of his life Amy Jean Palmer, and they remained together until his death for 58 years. To this union, three children were born Michael, Kevin, and Bobbie Jean.
Bobby had many talents which included a passion for working with his hands that led him to start his own contracting business with his son Michael, S&S Contracting. Being the consummate professional with a diverse skillset led him to pursue employment opportunities at Kilgore Plumbing, Henderson Brick Company, American Can Company, and later retiring from Kilgore College.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, John and Flossie Samples, his daughter, Bobbie Jean Samples, his brothers, Cecil and Charlie Samples, sisters, Ruth Olws, Marie Terry, Espanola Heflin, Clara Bell Hurdle, and Bonnie Mae Jones.
Left for his precious memories are his wife, Amy Jean Samples, sons, Michael and Kevin, his brother John Samples and his wife Mary, his sisters, Lena Prince and Emma Fields, his nephew/son Eddie Palmer and his wife Valerie, his nephew Ronnie Palmer and his wife Artelia and niece, Doris Ann Strong. His three beautiful grandchildren: Aeriel Popkie (Samples) and her husband Joe, LaTasha Samples, and Deonte Samples and his fiancé Tyesha. He also leaves behind the joy of his life, nine beloved great grandchildren.
In addition to his family, he leaves behind a host of relatives and friends that held a special place in his heart: his best friend Don Ecby (Baytown, TX) his godchildren, Rodney Butler, LaKetica Ogundeyi, (Fortson) Tonnisha Onuoha (Fortson) Robin Roustic, Simone Garden.
Bobby was beloved by his family and community alike, his impact and legacy will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, and all that he impacted throughout his life.
